Door-to-trail

The women's ACG Pegasus Trail is Nike's crossover shoe: a ReactX midsole with a 39mm heel and an 8mm drop, an ATC rubber outsole and a wider forefoot, at 247g. Believe in the Run rates it best for road-to-trail and light terrain. Their women's tester found the stack enough for long runs and the lugs small enough to stay comfortable on pavement. It gives up stability and grip on technical ground: the platform is narrow, the foam is soft, and the lugs are shallow for mud.

Where it overlaps with other shoes

ACG Pegasus Trail and Wildhorse 10 are both daily trail shoes at a similar weight. The Pegasus Trail is $155 with an 8mm drop and is better on the road; Nike builds the Wildhorse 10 for steeper, wetter trail, at $165 with a 9.5mm drop.

Waterproof / winter

The women's ACG Pegasus Trail GORE-TEX adds a waterproof GORE-TEX upper to the Pegasus Trail. The ReactX midsole, the ATC outsole for wet trail and the wider toe box stay the same, at 248g with an 8mm drop. It is the shoe for rain, puddles and cold mornings. It gives up price and airflow: $175 against $155 for the dry shoe, and a waterproof upper runs warmer in dry heat.

Daily trail trainer

Nike aims the women's Wildhorse 10 at a favourite trail or a more technical route. It has a ReactX midsole, and the Trail ATC outsole is made for traction on steep climbs and in wet weather. At 244g it is the lightest weight Nike gives for a women's shoe in this lineup. It gives up drop and protection: the 9.5mm drop is the highest here, and there is no rock plate.

Cushioned long trail

The women's ACG Zegama Trail is the long-day shoe, which Nike calls light and ultra-cushioned. Nike puts ultra-light ZoomX foam over a layer of Cushlon foam, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole with Traction Lugs under it. The toe box is roomier so the foot can spread on rough ground, and a stretch ankle cuff keeps grit out. It has a 4mm drop. It gives up weight: at 271g it is the heaviest women's shoe in the lineup, and at $180 the most expensive one.

ACG Zegama Trail and Kiger 10 both have Vibram outsoles and low drops. The Zegama is the long-day shoe with ZoomX at 4mm; the Kiger 10 is the low shoe for technical, faster runs at 5mm.

Technical trail

The Kiger 10 is a unisex shoe. Nike calls it one of the lightest trail shoes it has made, with a low profile built for technical trails. A Cushlon midsole sits over a Vibram Megagrip outsole with widely spaced lugs, and a forefoot rock shield blocks sharp stones. It has a 5mm drop and costs $170. It gives up cushion: it is the lowest shoe in the lineup, for rough ground and shorter runs.

The ACG Ultrafly Trail is Nike's carbon-plated trail racer for long races. Nike sells it in shared men's and women's sizes. It has ZoomX foam over a full-length carbon plate and a Vibram Megagrip outsole, and the upper drains water. The drop is 8.5mm and the heel is 37mm. It gives up price: at $260 it costs the most in the lineup.
