Three Kipsummit shoes make the trail range of Decathlon's running brand. The Kipsummit is the all-rounder with a road-like feel. The Kipsummit Max adds cushion for long days. The Kipsummit Race is the carbon-plated racer. All three have a Vibram outsole with 4mm lugs, so none is a specialist for mud or very rough ground.

A trail shoe with 4mm lugs, soft foam and a built-in toe cap.
Why for door-to-trail: It feels close to a road shoe, so it suits runners coming from the road and routes of dirt paths and gravel.
Why for daily: An all-terrain trainer for $130, with a 39mm heel and a Vibram outsole: the simple choice for regular trail runs.
A maximum-cushion trail shoe with Fastech+ foam and a Vibram outsole.
Why for long run: Soft but not mushy, with a gentle rocker: it keeps the legs fresher over long, rolling trails.
Kiprun's first carbon-plate trail racer, with SCF foam and a Vibram Megagrip Litebase outsole with 4mm lugs.
Why for race: A carbon plate in a light, springy foam: protective and propulsive, and quick on runnable courses.
Why for ultra: Built as an ultra racer: a 37.5mm heel at 255g, with a plate that shields the foot for many hours.
