Our read

The base Prodigio is the do-everything shoe in La Sportiva's Prodigio line, praised by Believe in the Run for delivering both technical trail capability and door-to-trail comfort, and winning the 2024 Best in Gear Trail award for the Technical category. It marks a shift for the brand from highly specific mountain footwear toward genuine versatility, thanks to a more accommodating yet secure fit and a versatile XFlow EVA midsole.

Ride

A versatile ride from the XFlow nitrogen-infused EVA midsole at a 34/28mm stack (6mm drop), balancing cushion with trail feedback. Cross-terrain grip comes from the dual-material Frixion Red outsole. No propulsion plate, giving a natural rather than propulsive feel.

Fit

Reviewer describes the updated fit as more accommodating but still secure, with an average/wide forefoot fitting comfortably when sizing up a half size. Suited to a range of foot shapes without being sloppy.

Best for

All-around trail runners wanting one shoe for door-to-trail miles and technical terrain, including moderately iffy ground, at moderate distances.

Avoid if

You want maximum plush cushioning for very long ultras (consider the Prodigio Max) or a plated, race-day propulsion feel (consider the Prodigio Pro).
