Our read

The Speedgoat 7 GTX remains the benchmark technical trail workhorse, adding a GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane for wet-weather and cold-season protection without sacrificing the plush, protective ride that makes it a favorite for long, rugged trail days.

Ride

High, protective SCF EVA cushioning paired with an aggressive Vibram Megagrip outsole delivers a stable, confidence-inspiring ride over technical, rocky, and muddy terrain, though it lacks a rock plate for the most punishing rock gardens.

Fit

Available in regular and wide widths with a Cordura-reinforced upper and toggle lacing; the GTX membrane adds a slightly snugger, less breathable fit than the standard mesh version.

Best for

Long technical trail runs, ultra-distance efforts, and wet or cold-weather trail conditions where waterproofing matters.

Avoid if

You want a lightweight, fast-feeling shoe for short technical trail races, or you run in hot, humid climates where a waterproof membrane traps heat.
