Our read

The Torin 8 GTX trades a bit of weight and cost for reliable weather protection while keeping Altra's signature soft, zero-drop road ride intact, making it a solid daily and long-run companion in wet climates rather than a race-day shoe.

Ride

Zero-drop 30mm EGO MAX stack delivers a soft, stable, balanced road ride with a natural foot-strike feel, though the higher stack reduces direct ground feel.

Fit

Standard FootShape fit gives a roomy toe box for natural toe splay, though several wearers report the GORE-TEX version runs tighter through the midfoot and up to a half size smaller than the non-waterproof Torin 8.

Best for

Daily road miles, long runs, and walking in wet or cold conditions where waterproofing matters more than outright speed.

Avoid if

Avoid if you need a lightweight racing shoe, run in hot weather (GORE-TEX reduces breathability), or have previously sized true-to-size in standard Torin 8 without accounting for the tighter waterproof fit.
